Erie Women's Fund Continues Empowerment Mission
The Erie Women's Fund is continuing its mission of empowering women in the Erie community.
The organization held an educational session Thursday on implicit bias.
These biases are a product of our brain's tendency to make rapid decisions that are shaped by experiences, media and cultural influences.
During the discussion, keynote speaker Elise Michaux offered advice on how to keep your biases in check.
"One of the things that I always encourage folks to do is check their news sources," she said. "We all have certain ways that we believe and learn and all that good stuff. Nothing wrong with that. But how do we ensure that the sources and things from which we getting our information are done in a way that provides the widest picture?"
Since 2007, the Erie Women's Fund has granted over $1.3 million to organizations to address community needs.
